RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete)

Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is the optimal pavement construction solution for local streets and roads.

RCC started being used during the 1970's as a revolutionary material suitable for dam construction and road surfaces.

Roller Compacted Concrete has the same basic ingredients as conventional concrete in different ratios: cement, water, and aggregates, such as gravel or crushed stone, but unlike conventional concrete contains much less water. The produced mix is drier and essentially has no slump. RCC is placed in a manner similar to paving; the material is delivered by dump trucks and spread by equipment or specially modified asphalt pavers, then compacted by vibratory compactors. Typically, RCC is constructed without joints. It needs neither forms nor finishing, nor does it contain dowels or steel. Maintenance costs for RCC are lower than asphalt, as it provides for a more durable pavement solution. RCC is known for being more economical than a flexible pavement. Additionally, more than 20 years of exposure as in cold climates, have demonstrated that RCC has adequate resistance to freezing and thawing. The high strength of RCC pavements eliminates common and costly problems traditionally associated with asphalt pavements.

RCC Pavement

    • Resists Rutting
    • Span soft localized subgrades
    • Will not soften under high teperatures
    • Will not deform under heavy, concentrated loads
    • Does not deteriorate from petroleum spills (gas, diesel, motor oil, etc.)
